I fancy using some bright colours for the body of the basket, so the next step is to dye a load of round and flat reed. Any suggestions anyone?
Second target is to make a new rail and at least start the weaving on this pretty stool. I say "start" the weaving because it's so close and fine I have a feeling that it will take a couple of weeks at least to finish.
This was a great piece to take apart, a true insight into how the experts carried out their craft a hundred or so years ago. They cheated so well you couldn't see the joins, brilliant!!!

Wow! I am really in awe of people who can weave seats and keep their nails... I have several rush seated chair in my house but my fave is a little child's seat that sits in the bathroom. Thanks for sharing on Handmade Monday.
I have done gods eyes with wool...never imagined that it could be used for baskets....looks great!!
my kitchen chairs have woven seats and I love them..... I may have to pick your brains on the best way to clean them. x
For colour suggestions type in 'rainbow eucalyptus' into google search and go to 'images', the colours of the bark are wonderful.

Ros, the nails are such a help with weaving! Mind you I had to cut half an inch off this weekend, they were more like claws that the cat would have been proud of!
Loody, the God's eye weave is just sooo useful.

Your crafting looks very interesting. It's nice to see read and see something out of the norm.
This is stunning and impressive stuff! We have several old caned and woven chairs. One in particular (a rocker) we had redone years ago. Lots of work, but so worth it. I would love to be able to, and so admire anyone who does it! Gosh, wow, I am so impressed!

Its good to see talents like this being kept alive; I can imagine it must take a lot of dedication to arrive at the finished article. Lovely work.
